SSF Baron helmet chancing

I really want to have the baron helm. It is a unique of the 'close' helmet which is a level 26 armour helmet. The baron requirements are level 28.

I figured farming in a level 26 zone would be the best odds aside from rng in maps to get it to drop,... and, I wanted to chance white helmets i set my filter for.



my question is,... and i know rng is a huge factor,... for those who have chanced for certain items in the past, about how many whites do you chance before you get one unique on average? the baron unique is currently the only unique that can come from a close helmet base.

Hundreds.

Like, I can't give an exact amount, but I think I went through 200-300 Orbs of Chance before I managed to get a single Unique. Been through a few hundred more since then and got nothing.

I even expedited the process by spamming Scours too to use like 50 Chances on a single drop.

But I'm unlucky as sin so YMMV...

It also factors in how rare a particular Unique is anyway. Like, The Baron is pretty common (I think I've seen about 15+ of them this league) so is much more likely to be chanced than if you were going for say, Headhunter or Shavronne's Wrappings which are exceedingly rare.
I've probably found dozens of baron helmets in maps, just run maps you will eventually get it.

I've chanced one rare in the last 7000 or so chance orbs.

The unfortunate thing about even a 1/100 chance is you've still got okay odds of *not* getting it after 200, 300 or more.

And once you get into that sweet 1/1200 chance or above, well... I'm about to hit 5,000 fusings since my last 6-link.

I'm roughly 3-5k orb of chances into SSF and have not hit anything. Ironically, after putting about 4-500 orb of chances into Assassin's Garbs I ended up having the Cospri's Will drop. My suggestion is add the helm to your loot filter and go for it. SSF Orb of Chance drop rate can sustain 2 chancing targets, at least in my experience.

On another note, does that helm have a T1 drop rate? I feel like I've had tons of uniques drop 5+ times but I also haven't had the helm drop.

cannot be T1, i found like 9 of them on Legacy.

so many that i started vaaling them :P

The probability changes from base to base. Basically, GGG has controls to keep certain powerful uniques very hard to find or chance. The Baron isn't a widely coveted power unique - it's pretty niche, so probably it's not a completely impossible task to chance one, but I doubt anyone knows for sure what the odds are.

To contrast, power uniques that a LOT of builds can use tend to be absurdly rare. Chancing something like a headhunter is like winning the lottery. Which, at the beginning of legacy I pulled down a headhunter in hc by chancing only 2 stash tabs of belts. Other people I know chanced over 20 tabs and came away with 1 or 2 decent rares + a handful of meginords.

There was a community project to gather data on chance orb rates back during initial release (game ver 1.0). Does anyone have the link handy? Of course that data is... a bit old.
