Esh's Visage - Chaos Dmg does not bypass ES

Esh's Visage has the following property:

"Chaos Damage does not bypass Energy Shield while not on Low Life or Low Mana"

Now, how do I need to undestand this wording? Negatives with "or" conditions are always a bit hard for me to comprehend:

Scenario 1:
Neither life nor mana are low life/mana -> Chaos damage does not bypass ES

Scenario 2:
Life and mana are low life/mana -> Chaos damage does bypass ES

Scenario 3:
Life is low life, mana is not:

From what I understand the following:

if <condition = true> then <chaos damage does not bypass ES>

Since the condition is an "or", then it should be sufficient that only one of the two conditions returns true for the whole condition to be true.

In the above example:

life is low life -> not true
mana is not low mana -> true

One of the sub-conditions is true, so chaos damage won't bypass ES?

Wouldn't that require the wording to be:

"Chaos Damage does not bypass Energy Shield while not on Low Life and not on Low Mana"

As said, I've always had issues understanding negatives with "or" conditions properly... but I guess you're right.

I think it's the double negative that gets people confused. Think of the wording without the double negative:

Chaos damage does bypass energy shield while above low life or above low mana.

I think the double negative confused you too :P What you wrote is technically wrong. Esh's Visage mod with no negatives would be more accurately stated:

• Chaos damage only bypasses energy shield if you are on Low Life or if you are on Low Mana or both

Or with 1 negative in front:

• Chaos Damage does not bypass Energy Shield if you are above Low Life and above Low Mana

Or with 1 negative in the back (I don't like this one):

• Chaos Damage only bypasses energy shield if you are not above Low Life or not above Low Mana

In English, "not A or B" without commas should be interpreted as "not (A or B)" which is logically equivalent to "not A and not B".
