Multistrike

I'll be honest...I hear people say Multistrike is need for so many things. I even see Multistrike used for the Infernal Blow build my Juggernaut runs...And I'm left going, WTF, why would you bother? I mean, I run on a trackpad and name locking doesn't stop me TBH. Why would I give up all that damage? If I was playing a spam skill, sure, but..I'm not.

Does anyone have an explanation as to why giving up all that damage in EVERY melee build is seen as needed? Does name locking really bother you all that much?

Well name lock is good and bad, you gona do all attack no mather if ther is monster close to you or not. Well this is true for most skill exscept Flicker Strike, rest of skills have ben removed from its suport.

Auto attack does not reduce damge it bost DPS, can lock you into animation and get you kill, make Damage/Mana balance in great disproportion for your benefit.

Depending how many benfits you gain from one i mentioned will resoult on decision to use it or not.

Huh... Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's not a damage reduction at all. While each hit damage gets reduced by 30%, you also deal 3 hits, which turn into 210% damage ([(100-30)*3]=210); that's flipping critical! Also, if you have mana issues, it can be somewhat of a mana-saver, as you're adding 110% damage in exchange of just adding 80% mana.
Two casts of normal skill=200% damage, 200% mana cost.
One cast with multistrike=210% damage, 180% mana cost.

The real problem with Multistrike is that, unless you're running it along Faster attacks, you will be locked into three "slow" animations, which reduces your survivalness due how important is to reposition when playing melee. Imagine your main target just walking away from range while your character is still there trying to complete the second hit animation: Now what?

This doesn't applies to Flicker strike tho.
Multistrike is, for the most part, an overall gain unless you are doing mainly physical damage or the mob you are hitting has very high physical damage reduction due to how PoE physical damage works.

For elemental damage multistrike is always a dps gain. As well as for certain skills like reave and static strike where attack per second is important.

Only drawback other than the physical damage mitigation is the animation lock.
The real hardcore PoE players and the elites sit in town and zoning in and out of their hideouts trading items. Noobs that don't know how to play PoE correctly, kill monsters for items. It's pure fact, it will never change.

Welcome to PoE.
Multistrike isn't necessary or bad at all. Multistrike is a very good gem for any skill thatwants to attack quickly, so the only ones that don't need it are the ones that can't, infernal blow, and... I'm not sure if there ARE any others that don't want multistrike.
Get laid, get paid, drink Gatorade.
Multistrike gives a pretty big dps boost. That's why everyone uses it.
Face it, all of your suggestions are worse than this idea:

For a very modest mana multipler too, it's 36% more dps for just 16% more mana cost over time, which is a very good ratio. But it's mostly autotargetting, doing it on your own is too clunky over extended periods of time.
Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

So the "less" damage modifier is outpaced by the "more" attack speed, as long as you do multiple damage types, is what I'm getting here?

Cuz the second I use it on any build, my tooltip goes up and my clear speed goes down, TBH. Hence my confusion. I get using in on something spammy, like Reave, or Static Strike, but it still seems odd to use it in builds where attack speed isn't the focus.

Maybe I'm just a hit hard, hit once kind of guy, rather than a spam attacker.

Well, you deal less damage and attack faster, so yes, but you also attack thrice.
So, overall, way more damage per activation, and more dps, too.
The immobility and, if your skill doesn't have mad AOE, chance of spreading your damage, sometimes on empty ground, will potentially result in you getting less done.
It really depends on the build, and the skill, you use.

Yes that's why the tooltip goes up.

I don't use it on my AoE clearing skill, since it does slow down clear speed if you need to stand in place to do three hits, when one or two are enough. However, for your single-target skill (except earthquake) it is great.
