Whispering Ice and Herald of Thunder [theorycrafting help thing]

Is there anyway to reliably proc herald of thunder (killing shocked enemy) with a whispering ice build?
- Would just the damage from herald of thunder be enough?
- added lightning damage gem?
- other sources (don't know here)?

I was originally use Herald of Thunder to proc my Curse on Hit, but, I abandoned it eventually.

I was running a Crit build back then, and had HoT proc fairly consistently. I eventually swapped over to Avatar of Fire though, so I went to Herald of Ice with my 100% conversion.

What exactly is it that you want to achieve by proccing HoT? It's probably better to do it some other way.

I did curse on hit herald of thunder spark during the perandus two week and it worked extremely well with the elemental overload keystone. I was wondering if I could so something similar but with whispering ice during the new league.

Well, i had some interesting interactions with curse effectiveness in combination with curse on hit elemental weakness and conductivity resulting in monsters having 128% reduced lightning res and herald of thunder 2 shotting white mobs in tier 6 maps so i could care much much less about spark "covering the screen".

And I was interested in doing something somewhat similar (not running conductivity of course), guess i'll just see how much base lightning damage i need to get it to trigger.

You can use Pyre ring to convert your cold damage to fire and Three Dragons helm to make your fire damage apply shock instead of ignite. You'll still need some crit or chance to shock to actually shock semi-reliably. I'm not sure end result is worth the hussle though.

Three Dragons could work; Though you lose some defensive stats, you gain Ele Resists which can be a pain to get on WI builds. I wouldn't advise Pyre Ring, solely because that's a Perandus Signet you can't run (Though if you don't plan to run those anyway, go nuts).

Cold to Fire Support Gem gives you 50% conversion, so with Three Dragons your Fire half will be Shocking, the Ice half Igniting, Whispering Ice itself gives Chilled Ground and the Herald of Thunder can Freeze if it gets the chance.

Of course you'll be split damage type then, so you won't be able to go full nutso-pen like it seems you want... And if you go Avatar of Fire then Herald of Thunder does diddly squat anyway (At least damage wise, I think 0 damage hits would still apply Curse on Hit?)
