"Armor and Evasion" nodes
There is a cluster of nodes on the very bottom left of the map - below BM. It gives 8% evasion and 8% armor.
I have Iron Reflexes (Converts all evasion to armor). Will the Armor and Evasion node increase my evasion by 8% before changing it to armor, and then increasing my total armor by 8%? Probably not, but how does it work?
It doesn't double-dip, so it's only applied once. I'm not sure which of the two takes precedence, though.

iirc, it works like this.
800 eva, 800 armor + 10%eva armor node= 880 eva, 880 armor +IR =1760 armor IGN QTCRZ

So it increases my evasion by 8%
Then it increases my armor by 8% Then it adds those two together.
" Yep. Evasion still "exists" as a stat with IR, it just gets converted to Armor after all relevant modifiers are applied to it. |

Neat. So in theory, to get the best defense, I would want a high armor + evasion item; and take the evasion + armor nodes... with Iron Reflexes. Yes?
Is there a drawback to this?
" That depends on your build and gear. Armor/Eva items that have both values equal tend to require both STR and DEX if memory serves. This means that someone who stacks pure DEX (which have an inherent +EVA bonus) and takes the bigger +EVA passives with IR might end up with a higher or equal value just due to the DEX (+1% per 5 points) bonus. Mind you this is done with no actual calculations, just from a look at the nodes around the Duelist and Ranger sections and my own pure DEX Ranger build with IR. If however you are taking both STR (for the physical damage and HP bonuses, the latter of which is not a bad idea considering the HP-heavy bias present atm) and DEX, then yes, to maximize your Armor via the +8 Armor/Eva nodes, you are looking to have your Armor and Evasion as close to each other as possible. This means that you are actually looking for more Armor then Evasion in bare armor stats, since Dex gives you an Eva bonus. Open Beta release patch notes seem to signify that the Duelist in general is wonky right now. No idea what sort of balancing is planned though apart form adding more Duelist-aimed skills/supports. From my time playing one I do remember that I had trouble keeping non-HP defensive stats with other professions, but that was over a year ago, so its pretty much moot. Math is fun! " I have a feeling pure evasion gear can give the highest armour with IR. I've seen eva chests with 1600+ evasion, haven't seen an armour chest come close, hmmmm.... Mark_GGG 2012
If you put on your full plate mail, and I throw hundreds of toothpicks at you, you'll basically not feel it. If someone catapults a whole tree at you, don't expect the Armour to prevent as much of the damage. |

" Yes, Armor mods on pure Armor gear were sub par compared to mods that appear on Evasion gear. They have been equalized with 0.10.1 though. |

" Ah yes, you are correct, ty :) Mark_GGG 2012
