Whirling Blades is extremely glitchy
I am playing a squishy Shadow and am very fond of Whirling Blades! Dashing through mobs slicing and stabbing fits the Shadow quite well and the skill is decent (I think). AoE damage, dodging projectiles and dancing around melee creatures is quite handy.
However, it is a pain to use pretty much anywhere but in an open field. Not because there isn't a lot of room to play with but because your character ends up somewhere where he isn't. It works this way (from my experience): - You dash through a corner, a chest, a small prop, a rock, ... You see the standard animation and your character moves like he should and the mobs also target your new location. - You continue your slaughter, most of the time Whirling Blades again, but you do not hear contact, no blood splats. You try and attack a melee range mob and cannot deal damage. - Suddenly your character is back at this corner or rock, apparently he got stuck. Since you're stuck, you get swarmed and since I am a squishy Shadow I survive for two more seconds. As I am in the Cruel league now (so deaths have a penalty) and the mobs are more deadly this glitch/bug is the cause of more than 70% of my deaths. I wonder if Whirling Blades could be reworked, making the skill easier to use. Clearer hitbox detection or eliminating smaller props or troublesome corners in this detection. The other 30% of my deaths are completely my fault, however, and I enjoy every one of them. An awesome game so far and I hope to enjoy it for many more hours. For collision reasons alone, Leap Slam is just so much more pleasant to use. Too bad Leap Slam can only be used with Maces/Staves/Swords/Axes.
Even though Leap Slam does sometimes get you stuck inside walls, you don't have to deal with 99% of the ground clutter (rocks, stashes, etc) that you have to with Whirling Blades. I'm not so much annoyed with clutter collision as I am annoyed that I get desynced back to whatever rock/stash/doodad that I clearly (and painstakingly) whirled past 2 seconds ago. ✮ in-game @FTMFW

Whirling Blades?
Man I'd like to see your post when you discover Cyclone at .07 att/second like my char. I literally teleport to different areas of a map. I see things dying a screen away about 5 - 10 seconds later. Best of all that I use RT so at 100% chance to hit, the server apparently still dies trying to do funky math for no reason. Go figure. All i have to go on is the sound of me hitting something which tells me that whenever the game decides to catch up, I'll probably still be leeching and hitting something but where I actually am is anyone's guess. POE is an anomaly where by various skills that get you killed suck so bad with respect to the game and/or server programming/performance that players continue to play regardless! I mean things are so - so - bad that players still continue to play - me included. It's analogous to a child who does not learn when they get burned by fire. They just keep playing with it! It's analogous to an Apple fan who keeps buying Apple products no matter what... ah I should probably stop right there :) ✰CARD✰ The Survivalist
