Game freezes for 1-3 seconds a few times per hour

The game runs perfectly smooth except for total freezes for 1-3 seconds a few times per hour.
Before the freeze the framerate is high and there is no lag at all, and all of a sudden the screen freezes, but I can still hear the game music playing. A few seconds later I appear in a pool of blood surrounded by the enemies that were attacking me before the freeze. I managed to survive the freezes in hardcore until lvl 20 where a big freeze killed me when in a corrupted dungeon. My machine works flawlessly for other games, like Battlefield 4 and Dota 2. My setup: Windows 7 x64 ATI Radeon 7950 (3GB memory) AMD Phenom II X4 (4 cores @ 3.2GHz) 6GB RAM Samsung SSD 250GB (PoE installed on SSD, but mechanical disks are also present) |

Sounds like you might have a background process that runs a few times an hour and is pulling resources away from PoE causing the freeze temporarily.
