Loot Level Scaling (End Game)

The reason why end game is so unrewarding is because of the terrible level scaling of loot drops (a level 80 playing a 69 map = shit drops, a level 70 playing a 69 map = good drops)

With the difficulty scaling over the player ability significantly (a new 78 player cannot run 78 maps) and the lack of 78+ maps, end game is dead water. Maps get significantly harder (without GG gear) and loot gets very rare....

I'm speaking after leveling 4 characters to 80+ and after studying the drops of a character with the same level as the area vs a high level character in the same area, drop rates are much better when the levels are the same, end game maps suck for drops

TLDR: Hopefully GGG will rescale the loot penalty in the 80+ levels

The reason why endgame drops are so "shit" is because by the time you've reached like level 80+ you're well over 5 levels past the point where game "ends".

Look at it this way, a piece of gear that is appropriate for your level (like a required level 50 weapon on a character who is level 50) can fall at any point on a spectrum that goes from "completely shit" to "fucking awesome, best in game", right?

Also keep in mind that the highest level for any weapon base type is 70 (the rest vary between 67 and 69), then you create a situation where over time all of your gear will be of the highest level base type and over time more and more of the modifiers on those weapons will be the highest available level and some even have the highest available rolls.

All this means that over time more and more of your gear will be in the "fucking awesome, best in game"-end of the 'loot goodness'-spectrum. The more of your gear is in that end of the spectrum, the higher the probability that anything that drops will be worse than what you currently go.

It's like, once you've won the jackpot prize in the lottery, most subsequent wins in the same lottery will pay out less money than the one time you won the jackpot.

This is why so many high level players (80+) are complaining about no loot dropping for them, about them not being able to progress. They're so far past the current end up the game that chances are no loot better than what they currently got *can* drop for them.

There is no loot penalty for players in maps, or for any other part of the game.

There is a currency penalty but you're never considered over level 68 for the purposes of that penalty.

Basically its all in your head.

It is in my head too. I run three normal ledge runs with my lvl 91 char. 100% quanity and 100% rarity. Not a single rare dropped.

Run some normal ledge runs with your 80+ char. I think it is in your head too ;-)

What the heck does this even mean? No where in the game does anyone receive any sort of loot drop penalty (outside of uniques).

So I must ask, what the hell are you talking about?

Totally enough data points for a conclusion. You must be a scientist.

Actually if you're too far above an area's level (to a certain point) you'll get a drop penalty. Essentially IIQ is way down if you're too over leveled.

So. When our OP takes his level 91 character to normal ledge (area level 8 - 9 I think) it's not surprising he'd get a stupid IIQ penalty.

I have run 100+ quantity maps before and have gotten less than an inventory full of rares, and I've gotten chaos orbs in normal fetid pools at level 70+ doing the quest re respec points. Point is its so random, you want to see patterns but they just aren't there.

Chaos orbs have a chance to drop everywhere the only question is drop rate, and yes like previously mentioned there is a drop rate nerd when you are over leveled, when I did dominos runs when i was in my 60s uniques every time with no mf, now in my 80s (same character) only a few rares…. I am not even talking about whether these items have good rolls/are upgrades to me, just the rate of them dropping
