Exiled Wealth

I want to start off by saying this is not a whine or cry post. It is more a 'what am I doing wrong' post designed to help others as well as myself.

I read the open chat channel and I see people bragging on how many exalted orbs and GCP's they have, some claim to have them in the dozens if not close to 100+.

Now my ton is a 67 Marauder who runs 87% ir and 31% iq I have ffound 2 exalted orbs and 4 gcp's to date.

I have been playing with more of a beta mind set, meaning I use them to see what happens and do not horde them like I would if the game where live.

I farm fellshrine and then found the loot better in pools and streams / dread thicket.

My question is: where is everyone else getting these large amounts of higher end orbs?

As one of the (probably) most wealthy player on the server, it's very simple.

- Don't spend on maps.

- Don't gear multiple alts (I'm not saying you should not if you enjoy it, I'm saying if you want to get wealthy, you should avoid it).

- Keep all armours you find and use the chrome extension to find matches (multiple stash pages is recommended). Sell for alch/regals only.

- If you DO level alts, don't ID rares unless you are in merciless act 2. Make as many complete sets of rares as you can and sell them unid for 2 chaos a pop.

- Sell the crap rare weapons/quivers you find, DON'T throw them on the ground. They give tons of alternation orb very quickly. 45 alternation can fetch a GCP.

- Most wanted supports can sell for 1 chaos orb in intermediate difficulties. This is WITHOUT quality.

There's some luck involved of course, but those tricks do not require luck.

Additional data to what faerwin posted:

- For alch/regal recipes (and chaos too, just to a lesser extend) you will need not a couple of stash tabs, but tens of em.

- Most of it, specially GCPs themselves, come from trades.

- Following the point above, trade a lot and be a greedy bastard. If you have the skills and some luck (or lack of bad luck) you can also by a member of the elite few with multiple GCP, Divine and Exalted stacks.

- Maybe most importantly, don't ever use your orbs. That is, don't go try fusing your 5S armor with 900 Armour. Don't go trying to Chaos the perfect mods into an item. Don't try to Regal then Exalt your custom fit. The secret is to amass fortune and then buy when offer shows itself.

- When you finally are one of the elite few, then you will soon have enough GCPs to get various gems from 0 to 20%, Exalt that 1800 5L Chest which lacks those sweet resist mods, or Divine that 6L unique mace for the 250% damage you deserve! If you are bored out of your mind you can even try to see how many Jeweller's, Fusings, Chaos, Exalted and Divines you need to make some cool item from a worthless white.

But the most important part after all is: have fun!

Also farming. Lots of farming.

Of course you don't need to amass a huge fortune and perfect items to enjoy the game or for your character to be viable in the most difficult content. PoE is intentionally designed that way.

I run the pyramid. Should be even better drops than dread thicket and pools and streams. I found 2 exalted in one run there.
Surprised no one mentioned the obvious.

Races. There were 5 races total last week. Sold tons of stuff for overpriced in HC week race. Was able to compete in 4/5

Made about 7 exalted, 9 Divine, 20 GCP, and some other stuff. That's a low amount too.
Races are a huge source of wealth due to the frequency of exalteds and other rare orb rewards.

I would tell you to sell things for GCPs and such, but I'm sure you have the idea from the previous posts how they collect so many orbs now. I got bored of having a lot of exalteds the other day with nothing to buy, so I cashed them in for GCPs and now have a few new 20% skills which I will enjoy much more than any rare orbs in my stash.
I got 5 exalted from races this weekend. I also have 4 gcp from doing practice runs for races.

It's been a long time since a wipe. If your only character is a 67 Marauder, then you havn't killed many enemies at all compared to people with wealth (for perspective, in terms of enemies killed, your 67 marauder has probably only killed a small fraction of the enemies a lvl 80 character has).

So the first point is that you havn't played much compared to others.

And because you havn't played much, luck is going to be a really big factor in how much wealth you have, especially when it comes to exceedingly rare items like exalteds.

Do you know how many characters I leveled to 70 without getting ANY exalted? FOUR. Not bullshitting here, I managed to go four lvl 70 characters with zero exalt drops. So the fact that you have two with a single lvl 67 isn't even unlucky.

And lastly, yeah ladder races.

I would be 80 if I didnt lose a half a level every time I get half a level. either my build is weak or my playing is weak, I am working on both right now.
