Monster Rarities

I played Diablo 3 for quite some time before starting Path of Exile, and some confusion still remains in my head regarding the monster rarities.

In Diablo 3 it was Normal, then Elite (yellow name), then Champion (blue name).

Is it the same in Path of Exile? I have noticed that the monsters with a yellow name are harder than the monsters with a blue name. Also, what is the correct name for them? I think the yellow ones are called Rares while the blues are called Champions; is this correct?

Also, do you guys have any information about how many affixes these monsters can have?

Same as it was in D3/D2. Normal>Magical(Champion)>Rare>Unique in order of difficulty.

I believe the monster rarity goes as the item rarity.

Blue = magic

Yellow = rare

Orange = Unique


Although it's not always a set in stone gauge of difficulty, some unique mobs are rather weak if they happen to be static uniques or one of the weaker exiles.

Monster area level = XX
White monster = XX
Blue = XX+1
Rare/unique = XX+2
Rogue exile ( Anarchy League ) = XX+3 i believe.


WHy is this important?

- For mods on items ( some mods requires ZZ level)

- Uniques..


Example an exile in a map 67 lvl, can drom the unique AUXIUM ( its one of teh few uniques that requires an ilvl higher than the BASE white item required level : 70)

Just a subtle clarification, but the monsters are all the same level in the zone.

The difference is the item level of the items dropped by the monster is determined by the rarity of the monster.

White (Normal) monster drops have item level = monster level
Blue (Magic) monster drops have item level = monster level + 1
Yellow (Rare) and Orange (Unique) monster drops have item level = monster level + 2

If I´m not mistaken it is like with items. Magic monsters cann have and prefix and one suffix, rares can have 3 prefixes and 3 suffixes.

So Champions can have a max of 2 and rares can have a max of 6? Anyone can confirm this?

Thanks for the information. I already knew about the blue and rare/unique monster levels, but the rogue exile thing is new to me. Do you have a source?
