Arena PvP is planned for the next major patch, which is due quite soon.

We have already tested a sort of PvP via short-term Cut-Throat leagues, in which players start at level 1 and can then 'invade' other peoples' instances, kill them and take their stuff. It's sort of a mix of Diablo 1 and Demon's Souls, if either name means anything to you. :)
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.

I also like pvps that you own others and took away from them. I hate from pvp like wow or silkroad
I've never played either game (did play WoW in beta, wasn't much pvp, heh), so I can't comment there. I do like that GGG is going different paths for PvP -- test your existing characters with no fear of losing stuff, or start new ones and beat the snot out of each other for loot.

I only played a low level SilkRoad character, and I believe it is one big map consists of different players. That is not the case here. Instance/map is by party.

Just in case you don't know (since you are not beta member), the game is by instance/map. Thus, you know when someone come into your instance (if they are not friendly, then they are properly your enemy).

I hate making binary statements but as far as most video games go: there are only two kinds of pvp.

EVE/Ultima style: Dynamic overworld PVP. You're walking along and then suddenly someone attacks you. This can extend to whole groups of players getting together and attacking other groups of players. The best kind of PVP like this has a very strong goal and isn't chaos-based (because people just camp each other then). EVE online, for instance, has player corporations capturing other corporation starbases or territories, so fights, nay, entirely chronicled wars, take place.

WOW style: You fight in an enclosed space with very restrictive rules on how, when and with you can pvp. A very controlled environment. It may be modeled to look like the above kind of PVP, with tasks and events to guide player combat - but for the most part, PVP is just a sport. It doesn't have any ramifications beyond who wins or loses gets some arbitrary prize.

POE will have a mix of both. Cutthroat right now is chaotic open-world PVP. I imagine it will be more refined as the devs figure what to do with it - and it will be made into a long-term game mode where your job is to band together with your friends and protect your loot, while becoming the strongest I guess. Or stealing other people's loot.

There will be arenas and modes for arenas.

And then there will be PVP events, which are quest-based... I'm not sure how that will turn out. I don't think many people have experimented with the bandit quest stuff yet, but it's an interesting concept.
