Grenades should be an equipable item

I think grenades should be an equipable item that can be used in the offhand while using a crossbow, as well as used by themselves or one-handed weapons and items.

Crossbows are bit outclassed by bows currently because bows get the benefit of using quivers. This would bridge that gap in a more interesting way rather than making a quiver-equivalent for crossbows.

Grenades would come with a skill, like wands, and have stats relevant to grenades. I imagine things like increased area of effect, additional grenades, detonation time, skill effect duration, cooldown reduction, damage, etc.

This would also open up a ton of other potential builds. You could do grenade/shield, wand/grenade, one-handed mace/axe/sword grenade, spear/grenade, etc.

Like crossbows, one-handed weapons are often outclassed by two-handers because of Giant's Blood being almost essential to most melee builds. This would give one-handed builds a great new way to play.

The grenade abilities themselves could be a ton of different things, from the current lineup of grenades to new ones like a 'Shrapnel Bomb' that causes physical damage or an 'Ice Bomb' that does cold damage.

Imagine a stun-focused shield build using stun grenades in the main hand, where the grenade item itself has stun modifiers, increased physical damage, or even increased AoE, which all have great synergy with shield skills.

Or fire spellcaster that uses explosive grenades and a wand, so they can scale both their fire spells and explosive grenades with fire damage passives. Or maybe just to blow up their own Frost Walls, since there's some interesting fire and cold interactions on the passive tree and support gems.

Or maybe a spear and grenade build, that can use their grenades to act as the projectile component on a melee & projectile build, since there's modifiers for that too (jewels with 'increased melee damage of you've dealt a projectile attack hit' and 'increased projectile damage if you've dealt a melee hit' for example).

EDIT:

Traps and mines are going to be items apparently, so wouldn't it make sense for grenades to be as well?

Traps, mines, grenades, and ballistae could fall into a new category called "contraptions" or something if someone wanted to make a full engineer/tinker-archetype.

+1 if it comes with the proper modifiers. It will save some passive points from spending them pointlessly in passive tree.
I remember an old reveal video for the mercenary that showed crossbows and their grenade launcher component being two separate things and both had their own affixes.
Who am I to say anything, I don't respect my time either.

Bro i remember it too. I was excited to see this combination on two different gear parts. It gives you more option variations. But unfortunately like everything good vanished from the programmed plan.
That’s a cool idea, I like that.

Like a scepter

Can throw a Molotov, Smoke, frag, or poison gas.

The only problem I could see is another class using and abusing it.

Cool +1. Why not if not new of-hand gear for Xbows?
+1. This is the last i thought 🤔 if no of-hand will implemented for Xbows in later patches. Everything will be happy and no balance issues will come with.
+1 definitely sounds like it has some really interesting potential!

If grenades can be mixed with other weapons, then a crossbow-specific offhand would also be really nice, like how a quiver can only be used with a bow. Maybe something that modifies reload time, number of bolts, piercing/forking/chaining, even added elemental damage or exposure, ailment chance, etc.

At last someone told a smart and respectful solution for everyone! I guess Devs won't take it into their account becouse «Alea jacta est».
