Silent Cave cannot trigger final boss

I cant click on the final boss essence to activate it and there are no other enemies in the zone. Enemies remaining is 1. I believe this is caused because one of the imprisoned monsters was one of those purple zombies that run and explode on you and it killed itself (I did not deal enough damage to kill it before it suicided on me.).
