Damage Numbers compromise/debate

I get both sides with the visual clutter and stuff and the dopamine hits (which are real to me).
At the very least probably make it a limited timed instance of like showing the Highest & Lowest damage dealt in the last 5 seconds or something so atleast theres that dopamine hit AND provides gameplay information whether your dps is consistent, weakening, or improving. Great indicator for Crit hits and damage debuffs or damage resisted. Atleast this reduces the clutter while providing helpful gameplay indicators. The 'immersion' argument seems to fall off on me considering its not really a game that has or can be played HUD-lessm and theres that big health bar of enemies on top of screen always switching when switching targets.
