D4 is reinventing Corruption to great success. Why do we love the current system?

PoE: Corrupt with a risk of bricking your item because Vaal themed.

D4: Players didn't like getting nothing. Only good outcomes to incentivize way more crafting.

I'm obviously a PoE player through and through, but I'm really wondering if D4 just has the better system here. Here are a few cases:

New player:
Spoiler
Doesn't really know what he's doing. Corrupts some item in A3 and has a bad experience with it on average. Then is very afraid of even using the orb.

Average player:
Spoiler
Uses it on excess gear, meaning gear that has a good chance of being competitive, i.e. crafted gear. Doesn't really wanna craft multiple copies of the same item for minor gains. Often just ends up buying more copies of the same item. Definitely doesn't corrupt bad items because they can't compete as the gains as good but not THAT good.

Possible downsides of changing:
Spoiler

- If Corrupted mods are too strong, it could make 4-5 mod items stronger than 6-mod items, which is obviously not desirable.
- Some players might like the current system due to nostalgia.

Food for thought, though I can't imagine this place is being read by anyone competent. Food for void.

The time of the sparrow has come (c)
Vaal or NO BALL

keep it as is
keeps the supply of OP gear limited due to bricks
I never use vaal orbs for crafting. I agree. The gain for vaal orbs isn't worth the risk of bricking a good item. Furthermore successfully Vaaled average items aren't better than good items. That being said, that's not really my biggest concern.

I don't play the game for crafting or trading. I don't find interacting with those systems enjoyable. Even if vaal orbs were buffed, there is always going to be a chance to brick the item. Finding a good item is always going to take way too long. To me it will never be worth the potential time loss. I just don't get the dophamine other players get for winning a worthless lottery ticket.

I don't think vaal orbs will change, however. I get the feeling they don't want to give players too much agency in crafting. Consider how low the success rate of the recombinator is. That would have been the perfect place for players to have more influence on crafting. Instead of buffing that, they went made essences. This suggest they want agency in gear to be kept to very low levels, random with little determinism (and I mean real determinism not what poe players call "determinstic"), and preferably something that can be sold on the trade site. They also removed homogenizing orb. Their core player base likes these gambling mechanisms, so I suspect they are here to stay.

I think this crafting system is quickly becoming exhausting and boring, but as long as the core game-play is fun and engaging, I guess it's fine. I'm leaning towards ignoring crafting entirely. While I do have a very strong dislike of buying everything thru trade, if the option is buying stuff or dealing with the random crafting system; then I'll just trade.

A season ago I corrupted 8 gems with 5 sockets and 20 Quality in an attempt to get +1 level. No luck. At present, I am fatigued with PoE and the overpunishing design.
Corruption is a niche sub-system for those who wish to min-max their gear to the extreme.

Its whole design philosophy is centred around the ABSENCE of deterministic outcomes, so no - what the d4 'developers' are doing wouldn't work here.
