Ferocious Roar + Ancestral Cry | How does this interaction works?
|
Hi!
My question is simple yet complex... Can anyone help me explaining how interaction between Ferocious Roar + Ancestral Cry works? Scecifically: 1) Ferocious Roar is not an attack. Does it allow to support Ancestral Cry with gems that related specifically to Ancestral Cry ? (You can set the gems into Ferocious Roar and some are clearly works. It is unclear if gems like Close combat will work.) 2) Ancestral Cry clearly receives increased damage from Ferocious Roar. How should this damage be considered? -- My build is already 100% fire damage. It means that there is almost no benefit from provided damage conversion. (less than 5%) -- Ancestral Cry make all attacks Ancestrally boosted, thus they make 30% more damage. I made some testing... It is not entirely clear (and incorrect probably) but damage output through Ferocious Roar + Ancestral Cry interaction feels like Ferocious Roar's increased damage is actually works as more damage during Ancestral Cry's active time. Is this correct or am I just imagining things? 3) Last question is valid only if my first guess is correct. If Close Combat support gem works for combination of Ferocious Roar + Ancestral Cry. I activate Ferocious Roar + Ancestral Cry and become Kaombear. I attack with Maul (default attck) which also have socketed Close combat. Will those two gems work together or only a single effect will work? Thank you. Dernier bump le 14 janv. 2026 à 02:59:17

Hey there, i am currently using Ferocious roar + ancestral cry, i'm not an expert but can share what my understanding of the interactions are.
1) ferocious roar/ancestral cry are not attacks when you initially cast them, but ancestral cry has two attacks listed on its advanced description, Volcanic steps and Volcanic Eruption, these are the "attacks"(i think eruption could be a spell, like 'fiery death' support gem) that would be buffed by close combat and other supports. 2)ancestral cry does "receive" or "enable" a damage increase from ferocious roar, on every attack and skill while under the effects of ancestral cry, with two lines -Socketed skills deal 80% increased damage (ancestral cry, volcanic steps and volcanic eruption) AND -Attacks empowered by socketed skills deal 80% increased damage as this is increased damage in both situations, my understanding was that it does not modify the "ancestral boost" given to all slams that is 30% MORE damage, rather it says "if ancestral boosted, add 80% INCREASED damage before we add the 30% MORE ancestral boost" -so i would say you're mistaken but not imagining things, as 80% increased damage is a big chunk, 30% of 180% is nearly double 30% of 100%. 3) yepyep refer to first answer, the close combat support would work in both skills, allowing MAUL, Volcanics STEPS and possibly VOLCANIC ERUPTION to do 30% more damage based on distance. close combat wouldnt modify the 80% increase, or the 30% MORE ancestral boost, it would add 30% MORE damage to the equation, so now your MORE damage number would be 30-60% based off distance, instead of stuck at 30% just boosted. P.s wrote whole thing and realised you're making the same mistake as most of us assuming ancestrally boosted strikes and slams receive the same buffs. -Ancestrally boosted SLAMS have 30% more damage and 25% increased area AND SEPERATELY NOT AT THE SAME TIME -Ancestrally boosted STRIKES target two additional enemies which means ancestral strikes are mostly for aoe and dont work on bosses. |

Thank you very much!
That is clearly opened some eyes of mine. What a shame that Ancestrally boosted stkikes do not recive more damage. I was thinking that Ancestrally boosted attacks are 30% more damage and on top of it slams get AoE while strikes get +2 targets. Thanks for great explanation) |
