Persistent Ground III Help

I am trying to socket this support gem into my Companion

I have tried 3 different beasts with different affects

2x Quadrilla and 1x Antilion

Trail of Fire / Periodic Fire Explosions

Trail of Ice / Siphons Mana and Deals Lightning Damage

Trail of Lightning / Conjures Lightning Storms

none of them are working but when I check out some other simialr builds or a few streamers I have seen they are running it as a support in their companions...?
