King in the Mists as Melee

Fighting King in the Mists as melee is pretty miserable. You can't stand in the tornado, you can't stand in the purple growths, you can't stand the toad puddles, you can't stand in the aoe nova, you can't stand in the charged orb, soooo where are you supposed to stand? Hell you can't even slowly walk as you attack like a ranged character, so even up close you'll get hit more.

It makes me feel like the game is telling me I made a mistake picking a melee build. A LOT of things do, but that's a topic unto itself.

The correct way to fight the King as melee is to have enough damage to kill him before he can do any of his mechanics. That's the correct way to fight a lot of end game bosses as melee.

I'd love to be able to engage with the mechanics as opposed to stacking damage to the point where I never see them. I'm not sure what the best solution here is, because he doesn't feel too hard overall. Maybe if his close range aoe had a longer cooldown, and the tornado were slower or didn't have 100% uptime? Would still be an interesting bullet hell, but you wouldn't have to run quite as much as melee.

Also, he's really clear with his telegraphs and red flashes, but you still can't see them a lot of the time because of the rat tornado. Dying due to visual clarity sucks. If ability transparency were a stat on gear I would honestly take it. No, don't do that, please don't. But do make the game more visible, please.
