Build shader cache on same drive as game!
|
I love the Game and I've been having a blast but I've been having increasing performance issues with the game and its been incredibly frustrating. I've spent more time in the last 2 days testing everything i can to get performance stable.
My pc has a 9070xt and a i7 7820x and this is the only game I've had trouble with. I've optimized my bios ,cleared shader caches, uninstalled and reinstalled, reg edited my shader cache (AMD doesn't have NVidias increased shader cache support), attempted every setting possible. The Only change i have made that increased a large amount of shader studders was editing the shader cache location to be saved on the same drive as the game. I dont think alot of PCs are running games on the same drive as their main boot drive which normally contains the shader cache. Its only one line of ini code that fixed 70% of my problems. I don't think people will care if the game is an extra 30gb + of file size please consider building the shader cache into the game folder. Or at least have it as an option as a button in game or I dont know a secondary dlc download on steam that could download the entire shader cache we would need and place it within the game folder and would be able to auto update every time a patch was released and we had to update shader cache again. I could be wrong but please at least attempt an investigation in house on an amd adrenaline pc specifically. What you're describing sounds situational at best. As in, this works for you, but there are factors involved. Which drives? Which kind of drives? Connected to where on your board? The device types, their capabilities, and board topology can affect things for sure, but there's no magic bullet.

" OH MY GOD! For whole that year, after trying almost everything. This little stupid change makes finally smooth gameplay! TY |

I hope it is situational at best but i would like at least a quick test to see if there's a possibility this is the case or a contributing factor having the game read/write outside of its own folder and causing lag, crazier things have happened with code. If you look up shader issues for poe 2 you will find hundreds of individual posts.
All my drives are SSDs and my main storage has better read/write rate than my gaming folder but i and many others don't want to clog it up with 150+gb of game storage. If this isnt the issue maybe this post will at least have someone else attempt this fix and have it work for them. |

For people who don't know specifics, here is the relevant part of my config:

" I discovered this via Google search a while ago, and the change radically improved my performance, because the standalone client was trying to put shaders on a drive that was almost full, even though I specified a different drive during install. " The world would be a better place if games always saved files & shader cache on the same drive where the game is installed.. I had lower performance in poe 2 by having the OS and the game itself on different drives, even though both are modern SSDs When i installed the OS and the game in the same location it improved performance and reduced stutters by a considerable amount |
|
" Can you please be more especific about this fix? Like, where is this file to edit? Whats the name of the file? The cache_directory should be the same as the client.exe, is it? |
|
" The filename and location might be different for Steam. I'm on the standalone client. In <installationFolder>/logs/LatestClient.txt, search for Settings directory. That will tell you where your settings are. My settings file in named poe2_production_Config.ini. The text I posted is in the top of the file. I added the cache directory line. Safest to make a copy of the settings file before changing it, in case you do something that bricks the game.
