Cannot leave Map area - Local Co-op PS5

My wife and I play POE2 local couch co-op on PS5, and we recently were unable to leave an endgame Map area. We were able to create a portal via "town portal", but then when we interacted with it, it said something like "you do not currently have access to this area." We both attempted to create portals, and we were still not able to leave the Map. We had to close the game and then re-enter via "start in town/hideout" function in character selection. This caused us to lose several drops as we were trying to return to sort our full inventories before continuing the Map.
