Single path maps are GARBAGE.
I REALLY hope we see a whole lot less of these singular winding path maps. They are completely uninspired and completely kill the vibe of ARPG with any sense of exploration. I get depressed as soon as I zone into one.
Why build a beautiful system and throw it in the garbage at the endgame? Make the maps sprawling and make their layouts interesting with many branching paths. These single path maps are complete brain dead garbage. When it comes to backtracking it seems the cure is worse than the malady. People didn't like backtracking so you removed the ability to go anywhere but forwards and backwards. D3 did this, D4 did this, this is the reason I jumped ship with Blizzard. Now you're doing it too to appease the loud complainers and streamers when what you had at the start was a MASTERPIECE of level design. If I wanted to play a side-scroller where I can only go forwards and backwards I would do that. GGG please don't turn the endgame into a pseudo-Side Scroller! PLEASE! Didn't you play POE 1?
The most successful maps always have been linear maps. Do you really want to explore maps? For what? There is no hidden thing behind the next corner. You had all the maps during leveling and after doing them 100 times I don't know what you want to explore... |

I feel the complete opposite. I hate maps that feel like a maze. I don't feel challenged playing them, I don't feel like they're fun or interesting in any meaningful way.
Am I supposed to find it cool that there's another wall in a dead end in Augury that looks the same as the other million walls in the map? All I feel in this kind of map is like someone in GGG decided to waste my time by making them obnoxiously bad Dernière édition par iHiems#0168, le 18 oct. 2025 à 10:57:53

" True! But a circle is just a line as well :) |

The maps are the only "large" area we have to move around in, when they are completely linear then the game feels very small and limited and one dimensional.
For me, it really feels bad, circles are just as bad. Its just too damn simple. Dernière édition par Panzerstrike#1881, le 18 oct. 2025 à 20:27:55

Could not possibly disagree more, any map where it's possible to make a wrong turn is a completely garbage experience in endgame.

Could you tell me what is the purpose of the map and random level generation then?

Linear maps are preferable, because you get to flow through the map knowing you will find everything that spawned on the map without needing to waste time checking every dead end or running up and down open sections just to make sure you didn't miss something
When I want to play a game about searching every nook and cranny to find all the important things, I'll play a mystery game, or an I spy, or something. |
