PoE Necromancer's bone spells feel underwelming (Not about balance)

I wanted to start by saying, I didn't make many endgame builds with Necro, besides ED, so my point completely bereft of feedback on power of such skills, I didn't play with them seriously enough to discuss their power.

To not waste your time on my ramblings, conclusion of what I wrote out below:

Bony spells feel too much like generic magical throwing spike, like Sorceress would use.


What I do want to say is, all necromancy themed spells in PoE feel very tame. Not to say that they aren't beautifuly made, animation particles and SFX are really well made, but that's the "problem". They are just generically look great, but paint them blue and tell me that they are Ice skills, I would belive you.
Necromancers are supposed to be dabbling with scary, forbidden, disturbing even magic to warrant prosecution, burning and etc. The raising dead part checks out, chaos purple, ominuous part is more make-belive, but sure it does look more "dirty" then fireballs and lightning which Sorceress throws. Bone spells on the other hand, just look fine?

For comparison I wanted to talk about Necro from Diablo 2 (Look I know it's such a overused trope, but no one got it better, so what am I to do?) and LE a bit. Necro from D2 feels very thematic and apropriately digusting because he doesn't just make "bone", he throws teeth, makes spears out of spines and uses compressed skeletons for walls. LE necro is dry on that front, but at least I can point and say that their bodyswap blink spell looks appropriately digusting, wet and meaty? for lack of a better word. Necro from PoE just makes white spikes, they can be ice spikes, earth spikes, metal spikes it really doesn't matter. That feels too much like any other magic, not like Necromancy which is supposed to make use of blood, meat and bone, among other gore.

I am not sure why, it is as it is, since there are gore, meat and dismemberment a plenty in PoE 2, so it defenetely is possible, we can see it, but not on our existing skills, which are already scarce, 4 bone spells and 1 blood spell, 2 of those 5 are on items by the way and 1 of the remaining 3 is by all means a summoning spell, so it leaves measely 2 pure bony physical spells which is way too little for archetype wich has a whole witch ascendancy and node attributed to it, but that surely would fix itself in time, early access and all.

Great post, thanks for bringing up a different topic.

I think the Warrior is a great example of this. When playing the Warrior skills, you can feel the power of your hits thanks to the effects, and it feels really good. Today, I killed a pinnacle boss in 3 seconds with my Amazon using a combo, and it visually felt like a mosquito bite.
