Staff vs wand. Why such a big discrepancy?
I've been playing sorc through all of Early Access. Not one time have I seen a staff that made me consider using it over a wand/focus. Please do something to make this an interesting choice and not an obvious choice.

The only staff that has a skill that can help a build, in my experience, is the Gelid Shard. Freezing Shards is a good no-cost way to spread freeze and cover Mana downtime. Mostly because it's a large arcing skill that can be used long range to cover a wide area as well as short range to do some form of burst damage (though that damage is low, in my opinion, it's still usable in some scenarios).
Firebolt, Lightning Bolt, and most of the others are way too weak to be able to take the range boosting supports, and don't have any coverage without them. |

Staves don't currently have a use case in the game. They are about as useful as the sword cluster on the passive tree. Hoping that the other weapon types are much better thought out when they get released.

Even the spirit doesn't make them worthwhile.

I as a bonestorm witch player actually prefer playing with the staff over wand and focus since I can get +chance to fire 2 additional projectiles on there. Combines with sigil of power I can cast a fully charged bone storm near instantly and hit 2+ million damage with like... 1 div worth of gear.
I also really like staves generaly early game all the way till level ~75, since it's just 1 well rolled item I have to acquire instead of 2. |
