Return Tablets to Inventory

Do I really need to retrieve my tablets in such a labor intensive manner? Also, how do I know when to retrieve them? There's red and lock symbols all over the interface. Am I screwing it up by trying to take them after opening the waystone? This is quite cumbersome.

Unless you want to run different tablets every map there isn't a need to remove them at all.
