Endgame system idea
I appreciate that you're already working on the endgame, and I like what I'm hearing in the new announcement. You probably already have ideas for this in mind, however, I figured I might as well share my ideas about it.
I think it's possible to have an endgame system that has the benefits of both the PoE 1 system and some room for building upon the new PoE 2 system. It goes like this... Immediately surrounding the area where we start out, there's an area that's basically the same as PoE 1's system, where every map you can possibly find is available, and they're all repeatable as well. With the new system where you can add tablets to maps I don't see it being a problem if someone wants to do the same map over and over. Of course, at the edge of this zone, you put citadels and deadly bosses and whatnot; maybe you need to farm keys or something to get into them if you don't want people spamming citadels. Beyond this zone we essentially get the delve experience, but in maps. The further out you go, the more difficult/rewarding the content. Definitely have announcements for how far people can get like we have in PoE 1 Delve; I would want to hear about Shitstain Steve getting to 9999 maps from the center and crashing the game. I've also got some lore premise ideas for this. I'm assuming that at the end of the story of PoE 2 we're only going to be semi-successful. Although... with all the timey wimey stuff we got going on here I guess there's room for the concept that corruption has nullified an infinite number of timelines, and we manage to save one, which gives us a staging area/timeline from which we can go to other timelines to save them as well. Anyway, however the story goes, the point is that either within different timelines or within the one timeline where humanity holds on we have an area near the refuge where civilization is still holding on, and the area immediately surrounding them is where they can safely expand, and then re-running the maps is like you're protecting them from an attack of corruption or maybe going to another timeline to save them as well. Beyond that territory, corruption has more power/the timelines are less stable, and so it gets more difficult as you get further out, and of course this gives you room to explore ideas of more otherworldly things for us to find. Incidentally, part of my intent here is that the basic concept of the endgame has room for people who just want to blast the same maps again and again, but also for people who aren't satisfied with the challenge level of basic maps there's a possibility of going out to explore and finding a level of difficulty that's comfortable for you.
