Monsters get way too tanky in a party.
Currently party play is basically just a optional challenge mode for endgame super juicers with multi mirror builds to squeeze out extra loot from maps.
I tried to play with my friend a couple of times and both of our builds basically brick in a party. Let me explain what i mean: I play a Cold Monk with Shattering Palm and Ice Strike. I dash into a pack of monsters with Shattering Palm and then hit them with Ice Strike and the damage of Shattering Palm is enough to explode all mobs in a large AOE. In a Party the damage of Shattering Palm is not enough to explode mobs. I cant start a chain reaction. I deal 0 damage with Shattering Palm. I dash into a pack, deal no damage and get overwhelmed as melee. My friend plays a Cold Chronomancer. He uses Comet with cooldown resets and Time Freeze to stun all bosses and kill them easily. In a party though the Bosses have double hp and he runs out of all his cooldowns and his Time Freeze expires before the boss dies. He deals around 130% damage, so after he has done everything iam left with basically having to kill as much of a boss myself as i had to do in Solo play. So instead of coming together as a party, one with a good clear build and one with a good bosser build. Both of our builds advantages get negated by all the party scaling put on monsters to justify the extra loot they drop, which we dont even care about. I might as well go solo, have great clear and he goes solo and never has to do boss mechanics. And we clear twice as many maps. There is no advantage to go in a party as it is in Poe1. In Poe1 you share your Auras with a party member. So you get a friend with Grace and you have Determination: Now you both have Grace and Determination. One has Wrath, the other has Anger: Now you both have Wrath and Anger. Together you deal more damage and have more defense than you would have solo. This justified the party scaling a bit. But in Poe2 it should be removed. Whenever i see developers discuss about party scaling it is always about loot and rarity. Reminder that sharing is a fundamental part of human interaction. I DONT MIND SHARING MY LOOT WITH MY FRIEND. I dont care if you have to remove rarity scaling to get rid of hp scaling. I just want to play this game with my friend. might be worth considering running builds that synergize in a party environment.
i mean i agree with you to some extent though. i play like 99% of the time in a party doing couch coop so me and my partner have builds that work together. but because we've designed our builds for party play and we've had to get them to work against enemies with 1.5-2x the hp pools it means that if i go into a map by myself im just obliterating everything. |
