The game suppressed my desier to play to the lowest level ever.
Despite the changes — some good, some worse.
The game killed my desire to play. So… I was theorycrafting in my head. I created a new character (despite my lack of time — it took me 3 weeks, since I was on vacation for 2 of them). I had the urge to play. I wanted to play. I leveled up a Gemling to level 79. I wanted to go with Flicker Strike. I bought an axe and an offhand — planned to go Giant Blood Flicker Strike Axe + offhand. Oh well… didn’t read the skill properly — it said Quarterstaff. My mistake. Okay. Sold the axe, bought a quarterstaff. Then I bought Hateforge Moulded Mitts with 3 sockets, +3 rage, -10 max rage. And Darkness Enthroned Fine Belt — “This item gains bonuses from Socketed Items as though it had... " +4 rage on melee. Also got +7 gems with 1 rage on hit. Got all the rage on hit from the tree. So I gained 20 rage per hit = full charges instantly with each hit. Put on Flicker Strike and… f*** me? Yeah. F*** me. Flicker Strike: “You can’t gain power charges while using this skill.” Just why? Why? Why can you generate power charges with Cast on Crit and other combos, but not with Darkness Enthroned? It’s not the skill that generates them — it’s the gloves. But sure, you can have fun with Lightning Arrow. Yeah, lots of movement speed. Great clear speed. But you want to have fun with something else? No. No! F*** you. GGG is not allowing you to have fun. Do you think I’m coming here to play to struggle?? If I wanted to struggle, I’d play Dark Souls or Tarkov to feel pain. I want to have fun. What’s funny about grinding your ass off, and then at endgame, you feel like you’re in a cage? You want to have fun? Oh, sorry… you can only do that with Lightning Arrow and three more meta builds. Everything else is… F* YOU**, we won’t allow you to have fun. “Oh, easy… my boy, just make a new character. Grind from scratch. Do Lightning Arrow.” Yeah… I don’t want to anymore. I’m tired of this shit. GGG puts cages on everything. “Oh, you want to use that? You can’t. That? You can’t. How about this or that? Not working.” Path of Exile 2 feels more like the illusion of having a choice. Oh, you want to have damage as a Mercenary/Warrior? No problem. Just buy this one helmet, because everything else is garbage. All the nice things are on the Monk side of the tree. You can go ES easily and have decent defense. But other than that? Ah… I’m just so done with the game. It’s like hitting myself with a stone every time I try to take a step forward. Whats the point of not having fun? Autobomber - killed. Tangletonge - killed. All fun builds - Lets kill em! Oh wait. Lets keep Ligthing arrow. Oh how come 50% of populations play ligthing arrow?
Spoiler
Honestly, what you’re expressing touches on a core frustration a lot of long-time ARPG players have — especially with Path of Exile and now PoE 2: the feeling that “freedom of choice” is more of a marketing pitch than a gameplay reality.
On paper, PoE gives you this massive skill tree, hundreds of uniques, and theoretically endless build variety. But in practice, the game’s balance funnels players into a handful of meta builds that actually feel smooth and rewarding to play. The rest are often riddled with weird, inconsistent limitations that feel arbitrary rather than thoughtfully designed. The Flicker Strike situation you described is a perfect example. It’s not that you misbuilt the character out of ignorance — you theorycrafted, invested, and understood the mechanics — but the game has these hidden, non-intuitive restrictions that punish experimentation. That’s demotivating, because PoE encourages experimentation but doesn’t always support it. Then there’s the grind. PoE has always had a “struggle equals reward” philosophy, but when it crosses the line into “struggle equals frustration,” players start asking themselves why they’re spending hours working around the game’s rules instead of enjoying the gameplay loop. PoE 2, from early impressions, seems to be leaning even more into structured build paths. While that may make balance cleaner, it risks further killing that sense of discovery and fun for players who enjoy off-meta or clever interactions. So overall, your frustration is valid. It’s less about one skill not working, and more about a systemic feeling that the game is restricting creativity while pretending not to. And for a game that thrives on theorycrafting, that’s a dangerous direction. sounds like you spent more time watching rage bait youtube videos on how limited POE2 is instead of reading how your main skill operates. You spent 3 weeks theory crafting and didn't even read flicker strikes description. Also pls tell me where to buy an axe I'm sure it would be quite valuable since it doesn't exist yet

" It would be harder to write a prompt to write that then to write my feelings. " Ye. i made a mistake writing Axe instead of Hammer. So what that u read a description. You still cen generate charges via cast on crit etc. But cant via simple item.... My done 6L lottery (winner) view-thread/686980
