GGG - SEASONAL COMMUNITY GOALS - ENHANCED SEASON EXPERIENCE!

Since this is a live service game and is constantly updated by you, I think PoE2 is ready to get something that helps (some) players to engage with the game more. I'm talking about community goals in every new season.

Community goals are absolutely optional, but they can only be achieved when the community is working together. Best case would be, that these goals are integrated into the story.

Let me give you a clear example:

(Read this spoiler, if you want more context)
Spoiler
Season Name: War of the Ancestrals

Lore: Wraeclast is facing yet another hardship. The corruption of the world spread so deep, that it reached the spirit realms of the ancestrals. These once helpful spirits went mad now and found their way through dimensional path that were created by the creeping corruption that is even a danger for the gods themselves. All fractions join hands to prepare for an upcoming war against the ancestrals, while the exile has to find a way to calm the ancestrals down, so that this war will not be dragged out and cost millions of lives.

Season mechanic: On every map the player will find monster packs that consist of ancestral warriors with special modifiers. Furthermore, sometimes map bosses or posessed by an ancestral spirit, driving it even more mad then it is. These monsters and bosses will leave behind ancestral splitters that can be used to enter the realm of the ancestral. There the player has to find the entrance that allows the corruption to freely spread within the ancestral realm.

Additionally, players will find area on the map that are called battlefield. Here, you see ancestral warriors/bosses and ALSO brave citizens from wraeclast fighting against each other. Clearing these maps helps toward a certain community goal (see below)

COMMUNITY GOALS: Since the citizens of wraeclast are at war against the ancestrals, they need to be prepared and equipped. Therefore, they ask all exiles to help them out. These could be things like:
- pledge 1.000.000 blacksmith stone
- pledge 1.000.000 armourers scrap
- pledge 100.000 exalt orbs
- pledge 10.000 divines
- kill 10.000.000 ancestral warriors
- kill 1.000.000 ancestral posessed bosses
- Clear 10.000 battlefield areas on Atlas map

But what happens if the players reach certain goals? They unlock permanent perks for EVERYONE. Example:

- Goal blacksmith stones: 10% chance for rare weapons that 3 modifiers get their tier reduced by 1
- Goal armourers scrap: 10% chance for rare armours that 3 modifiers get their tier reduced by 1
- Goal exalt orbs: 10% chance for rare items to have one additional modifier when dropped
- Goal divine orbs: 10% chance for rare items to be lucky (modifiers values get rolled twiced and the better one is taken)
- Goal kill ancestral warriors: 15% increased rarity/quantity when killing ancestral warriors
- Goal kill ancestral possesed bosses: 15% increased rarity/quantity when killing ancestral posessed bosses.
- Clear 10.000 Battlefield areas on Atlas map: Once this goal has been reached, future battlefield areas always have +15% item rarity/quantity
- When all goals are reached, players receive another bonus. Something like a free cosmetic. I imagine something like a back-piece that looks like a banner of wraeclast, showing the victory the exiles had over the mad ancestrals.

Furthermore, if you pledge or clear battlefield areas, you get a bonus.
For every blacksmithstone you pledge, you get 10 minutes of 20% increased global damage.
For every armourers scrap you pledge, you get 10 minutes of 20% increased global defences.
For every exalt you pledge, you get 15 minutes of 15% increased item rarity.
For every divine you pledge, you get 30 minutes of 15% increased item quantity.
For every battlefield area you clear, you get 30 minutes 5% increased item rarity/quantity.
This motivates players to actually pledge, since you also get an individual buff.

Since it's absolutely optional, no one is forced to participate in the pledge. But things like these could help that people work together. Furthermore, it's a currency think, helping a bit against inflation, especially on standard league. In hardcore, the number of the goals should be lower, since characters are permanently gone here when dying, which makes it harder to achieve these goals.

What do you think? The season name/lore is ofc only an example. My main suggestion is to introduce community goals.

Please stay friendly here :)

Any opinions on the community goal suggestion? The suggested season is just an example, but I think the community goals would be a nice addition.
I like the idea, but I don't think shoving in power-creep is the way to do it.

Perhaps seasonal cosmetics would be more appropriate here & they can be taken into any of the following seasons.

I wouldnt mind either way. As long as we have a bigger goal as a community. Games like Helldivers 2 do this and it works. Depending on the result, it has an effect on the lore. Like: Were they exiles able to achieve the big goal? And if not, what is the consequence of that in the next season? They could built a whole storyline around these events and it would certainly motivate alot of players to engage more and longer with the game. This way, the game may be even played at the end of a season, if goals are not met yet.

I disagree, they would just play for 2 weeks and quit (which is the current way most of the player base is doing. You can't force people to engage in content if they don't want to - that's the current problem with POE2's early access thus far. If anyone can do everything and nobody can specialize into anything it gets old very fast.

I would heavily mind an additional power creep addition as they currently are unable to balance what they have (without even having all the ascendancy/classes even).

This may be the case, but it doesn't change that this suggestion has potential in the long term.

Also, I think you underestimate how much it means to some players to have an impact on ingame lore. Take Helldivers 2 for example. There is a whole community trying to save planets or secure certain positions. And everything the players do has an impact on the lore. Sometimes the players fail, sometimes they win. And if they fail, something big happens within the universe and you see players taking the next mission more seriously.

I think community goals and lore updates during a season could help to build long-term engagement. And players that play longer also have a bigger probability to buy MTX, which is good for GGG.
