'Resistances don't work and Basic mobs stunlock
Hello There,
It might be me but i am getting really annoyed by building defences and than being 1 shot by the most basic of enemies. On top of that if you play a melee class and get hit by certain enemies your attacks or spells will be straight up cancelled leaving you completely exposed for a second and usually ending up killing you. Am i the only one who experiences this? What is your point of view on the matter? Dernier bump le 18 sept. 2025 à 13:50:49

Is this POE1 or POE2?
Thanks for all the fish!

It'll be poe2 because the defences are pretty scuffed there, I keep giving them another go and they sorta function with enough investment but they have crazy scaling issues at different levels.

it is indeed about POE2. I have max resist for all elemental dmg but get killed easily by the elements i should be able to resist for 75% of the dmg.

" You have a fundamental misunderstanding of the game. The game is balanced around you having 75% resistance. You don't take less (than intended) damage for having 75%, you take MORE for having less than 75%. |

" I'm not sure I would call that a "fundamental misunderstanding" dude. The distinction is important when theorycrafting, but from the perspective of the outcome of events in gameplay it's pretty irrelevant. If the final amount of damage you receive is greater than your life, it doesn't matter whether it got there by being increased by too large of a value or decreased by too small of one. He seems to understand that having higher resistances allows him to survive greater amounts of that type of damage which I feel like pretty much covers the fundamentals here. |

" I am not sure if this is optimal, but I improve Stun threshold on Evasion characters, and I improve Elemental Ailment threshold on Energy Shield characters. It sounds as though you aren't building to mitigate ailments. Resistances matter, but Stun and Freeze will kill you. SSF Rise of the Abyssal Ice Strike Invoker, high survivability and fast clear speed. Deprioritize armor and resistances; prioritize crafting a weapon and faster start of ES recharge. Build is shown at level 47, end of Act 3. It tore through Act 3 like butter.

Stone charm can help with stun if you aren’t a higher life melee user or invest in stun threshold on your gear/tree
Freeze just use a charm unless you have some other way to prevent it I personally run at 4.4k life and play melee warrior have stun threshold everywhere so I don’t really need the stone charm. Save it for silver/freeze and then a unique chaos one since I don’t have any chaos res for the most part Mash the clean

In both games, I find it very difficult to know when I am encountering stun. Most other mechanics in the game have some sort of indication. In some respects, if you don't know if you are being stunned, it can't be that bad. However, when it comes to making your build, and getting a feel for how much stun threshold you need, it is very difficult. Particularly in HC, when you often want to be resistant against stun, but not needless waste resources. You want to know as soon as you start encountering some stuns.
(Edit: If someone can educate me on this it would be appreciated. Does light stun always show as a swirly icon above the entity in POE2? I think in POE1, that only shows for long stuns. It is possible that if i'm not seeing that, I am not getting light stunned at all, and perhaps it is something else light surrounded mobs displacing me that feels like it is interupting me, but not actually stun?) Heavy stun, in both games (Long stun POE 1), is ok, with more obvious indicators, but small stuns are hard to regocnise. It often just feels like something is off. Hard to know exactly what it is though, could be something else, like a knock back, some slow or immobilisation, animation interrupted, collisions, PC performance, lag, skill movement settings, hardware deficiency, or nothing at all and jumping at shadows. I think is would be better if it had a debuf icon. I understand that since it is a fraction of a second it may be annoying. Perhaps since there is build up of stun threshold based on amount of time light stunned in the last 4 seconds (From wiki), there is an icon that shows that percentage, if you have been light stunned in the last four seconds. I sometimes notice stuns if I'm using the stun charm proc, which is pretty helpful, but I think there should be a way of seeing it even if you aren't using the charm.
