Poison support help

Are poison support gems currently not functioning or am i not understanding them?


Do i need a base % chance to poison or should poison support add a % chance to physical attacks? If i socket it in any of my attack skills the stats panel doesn't have % chance etc.


Figure i need a base % chance to begin with, let me know please, cheers!
