Bind Spectre: do I really need to cut countless skill gems?

Am I really doomed to cut skill gem after skill gem just because I want to tinker with different spectres, or is there any way to unbind a spectre from its skill gem to "reset" it?

Disenchanting the gem via a vendor will clear the stored monster from the gem, returning you a fresh Bind Spectre.
