I'm a new player looking for suggestions

The title says it all. I saw an article for this game in a Game Informer I received recently and am very interested in playing.

There is no "gold" in this game as currency. The game operates on a barter system. Scrolls, and item modification baubles are essentially what people trade with.

Despite what the overly hardcore tell you, I'd suggest that for your first few characters, you simply put points where you feel you need them. It's much more fun and interesting (at least to me) to see how things are affected.

have you played diablo, etc?

and keep an eye on the colored dots on the loot -- you'll be wanting those socket slater
google vendor recipes
check out settings in options -- you might want to change a couple
check out the passive skill tree on this site and skim over the list of passives to see what you like, and where you'd want to start on the tree to get that stuff
