Torvian is badly designed
|
Torvian is the ONLY boss in the game with ailment immunity.
It is not made entirely clear how you inturrupt it, as only ONE of HIS attacks can interrupt them, you have no way to just attack the buffers yourself. Also apparently, according to written guides he doesn't even use this move that stops the buffers in his last phase(I cannot confirm if the buffs can be removed in last phase as I skipped it via burst). Which means in his last phase there is no way to remove the buff. The reason this is a problem is because this is a game where almost all of the damage options rely on applying an ailment to them FIRST. It counters the exact kind of gameplay the devs have said they want to encourage. And it does so in a way that the player has little control over, as you have to rely on HIM doing the correct attack to stop the buff. Dernier bump le 23 déc. 2025 à 11:50:37

" I'm a ice/fire sorc and did him no problems. Must be something on your side. |

After some X amount of HP is removed, he gets one of the three buffs. To remove the buff you wait for him to pick up a rock; I call it Rock Throw. Then you help aim his throw towards one of the three people outside the arena. To do this you stand next to the wooden tower and then dodge roll when he Rock Throws, the active buff will have some sort of visual.
The second option which I'm not sure if GGG has addressed it, is to hug the left wall and avoid the encounter. |

Wait... People struggled figuring out the rock toss mechanic?
Sometimes you gotta just look around if you're not doing damage. Like dark souls 3. the boss where you need that sword that does 0 damage. |

The only problem I had with this fight was, unfortunately, one that is a consistent theme throughout the new bosses - they are very poorly thought out for minion builds.
I did the entire campaign with a friend using a minion build. Torvian's problem here is that the rocks you need to bait into the walls to end the buffs (and thus OP's problem) hit the minions and not the rock. He doesn't even consistently aim for a player. There's also a problem with the Nepatizui-reskin fight in the Interlude Act where she tosses her spear and creates those massive chaos AoE tornadoes that live far too long. She aims for minions, so you can't bait her into throwing it in manageable positions. It makes the fight significantly harder because she hits minions in the middle of the arena and makes the entire arena a cluster----. They also stick around for way too long when you don't have the ability to control where they land in these situations. Just like the bosses with leech and how they can just recover all of their health with one leech attack against a minion, minion builds suffer during these fights. Torvian's stone throwing ability should always target the player...

This fight is just one of the more prominent in-game events that demonstrates that most PoE players have 0 patience.
Unless you literally insta-gib him you are likely to be at the mercy of directing his occasional rock throws which is extra annoying when there is party and minion play involved, someone mentioned it but I agree his rock throw should always target a player. If you're just a solo normal-non-gibbing player the fight hardly takes longer than any other boss fight. If you're an ailment dependent player I could see it maybe taking 10-20 seconds longer if you have bad rock-throwing luck. |
