I have plenty negative to say about POE 2 - however, despite how distasteful this may seem - this is normal for GGG. It reflects the way they've always done things with POE, there were always ads in-game whenever they run a sale.

Now whether they should be attempting to sell anything at all in an EA is up for debate, but in every case I've seen so far, the ads were for MTX that was sold across both titles, and since eventually all MTX will be in both games, it does make sense they advertise in both.

It's "ads" for the game's own promotions. Which are perfectly fine. Nobody is forcing you to buy anything, but please do make sure to ask for a refund for the free game because it dared put "ads" on your screen.
