league mechanic idea - "inception"

Hello Community.
I have an idea for a league mechanic inspired by the film inception.

Basically the player would encounter on a map an insurmountable problem. To solve that problem he can travel into another map: a dream-like world and find support there. Then he returns back to the original map and is able to challenge what was before insurmountable.
Example: The player encounters a giant dragon that can oneshot him with his fire breath. He travels into the dream-like world: it could be a magicians libary were he learns a teleport spell to teleport behind the dragon just before the fire comes out of his mouth, or he could find a magical shield that lets him block the fire breath or he finds a magical sword that lets him build up a fire-barrier when attacking. He returns with the support item (or skill) and defeats the dragon with it.

Of course there would be enemies and challenges within the dreamworld. There could be multiple options to enter the dream world to choose from on a single map (the others close once you've made your choice). They would lead to different dreams and offer different support items. The look of the "entrance" would give a hint as what to expect. The support items and skills the player acquires would vanish after leaving the "inception" map. This way the process of acquiring them stays meaningful on the next map.

More complex "inception" maps would offer a "dream within a dream mechanic": the dream can also have a problem that can be resolved by going into a deeper dream level. On deeper dream levels new challenges like a strong monster chasing the player through the dream can be encountered. There could also be a "the dream is collapsing" feature that triggers when the player starts to reverse his course and tries to return towards the original map.

I like this idea, because it offers new gameplay with the dream skills and items, dream features and new bosses. It would also make exploration more meaningful (you could walk into the first dream portal you encounter or continue searching for a better one), offers the opportunity to add rich content in diverse themed dreams and can lead players to think about which dreams fit best to their build. I also find the dream theme to be cool and multi-stage dreams with limited portals could offer an exciting and epic challenge.

Not hardcore friendly. Stopped reading...
HC SSF. What else? Ruthless when?
If you would have continued reading, you would have seen that the proposed mechanic isn't bad for hardcore players. If properly implemented that dragon could be in a kind of boss arena or at least visible from afar and later the player returning from the dream has a tool to deal with it.
