Divine orbs are useful?

I wonder if Divines are just a luxury currency. I play almost full SSF (just trading currency in the currency exchange for covering my needs) and the divine orbs feel like lackluster. They are so rare that i'm afraid on using in an item and ruin it.

I know it's an exotic currency for rolling good uniques, but again, feels like luxury food for multi millionare people rather than ssf or casual players.

I think Divines should improve the tiers of an item for being a good currency to upgrade your good items.
