[BUG] - Lich Eldritch Empowerment
Skill states spending energy shield on spells does not interrupt recharge, however recharge is being interrupted by casting.

Update: I just realized this is a bugged interaction with Event Horizon. Please fix this combination to work properly.

Eldritch Empowerment adds an Energy Shield cost to your non-channelling spells, which does not interrupt Recharge. Event Horizon does not add a cost to your spells, it makes you lose energy shield when you cast a spell. The description for Energy Shield explicitly states that losing Energy Shield will interrupt Recharge.
I made the same error in trying Event Horizon to disastrous results but it is 100% functioning as intended as described by in-game tooltips. It's not a bug, just a nonbo. |

I'd have to say I disagree. Eldritch Empowerment says "Spending energy shield does not interrupt recharge". Event Horizon causes you to lose energy shield when you use a skill. That's a cost, you're spending energy shield when you cast.
The clear design intent here is to allow liches to spend energy shield on chaos spells to improve their damage, and I don't believe this interaction is working as intended. So unless someone from GGG responds to this thread saying it IS working as intended, I'm going to classify it as a bug. |

Event Horizon interrupts ES recharge. ALWAYS. It is not a matter of Eldritch Empowerment making it interrupt, Event Horizon always interrupts ES recharge. Why learning Eldritch Empowerment would change this behavior? It is working as intended. 'Lose' is equal to damage taken, 'cost' is equal to spending, but both are different. Wording in this game is 100% coherent within all sources, all sources of 'lose' count as if you took damage, and taking damage has nothing related to Eldritch Empowerment's 'spending does not interrupt recharge'.
I agree that this functionality maybe needs to be changed on Event Horizon (lose 3% life and ES > cost an additional 3% life and ES), but the current way is definitely not a bug, just an interaction that was left this way. Dernière édition par Rydreeck#6554, le 7 mai 2025 à 16:23:36

" As the previous commenter posted this is most definitely explicitly working as intended, but I'll also add that if Event Horizon was changed to be a COST to cast the spell, it would no longer work whatsoever with Eternal Life as you would be unable to pay the life cost while having Energy Shield, making the passive even worse. For the same reason you cannot use Lifetap or Blood Magic on a non-channeling spell with Eternal Life as you cannot pay the cost, this would make Event Horizon, an already horrible talent on your particular build, even worse. The game is EXTREMELY literal in what is a cost, what is damage, what is sacrificed, and what is simply losing that resource. If something does not explicitly state it is a cost, it is not a cost. Just like if something says you "lose" life/ES/etc, it is not damage, and will not affect any effects you have that would trigger on taking damage. A cost will always have the word "cost" without exception. While there are plenty of things that could be explained better via in-game tooltips, the explicit definitions are extremely specific and making the same oversight you did in how Event Horizon is worded gave me a deeper and better understanding of the game mechanics and it is a mistake I am glad that I made. |
