Crafting confusion

I’m experiencing a lot of the same confusion with crafting in Path of Exile 2 as I did in the first game—particularly around terminology and UI clarity.

Prefixes and Suffixes

First, the terms "prefix" and "suffix" are confusing in this context. By definition, a prefix is a word part added to the beginning of a word, and a suffix is added to the end. In PoE, however, these terms are used to categorize stat mods on gear. From what I understand, stats are divided into two buckets—prefixes and suffixes—but it's not at all clear which stats belong where, or what each bucket is meant to represent. When I try to add a stat to an item, I have no idea which bucket it’s going into, which forces me to leave the game and look everything up.

Suggested Gear Display UI

What I’d love to see is a more intuitive breakdown when viewing item details. For example:

Damage/Defense (depending on weapon or armor type)

Stat 1

Stat 2

[Empty Slot]

Utility

Stat 1

[Empty Slot]

[Empty Slot]

From this layout, I can clearly see how many stat slots are available and where I can add more. The buckets are visually separated, and it’s clear what kind of stats belong to each. Ideally, hovering over the bucket name would display a list of possible stats that can go in that category.

Crafting Material Clarity

Crafting materials should also be more descriptive. Phrases like “Add one stat” or “Remove one stat” would be far clearer. You could also introduce crafting materials that apply specifically to certain buckets. For example:

Remove one stat from the Damage bucket

Reroll all stats in the Utility bucket

Reroll one random stat in a selected bucket

Reroll the tier of a random or selected stat

Reroll the value of a random or selected stat

Reroll one specific stat (player-selected)

It’s fine if some of these materials are very rare. My main point is that the functionality should be clear and understandable without requiring players to consult third-party resources or watch guides.

Conclusion

Overall, I believe improving the clarity of crafting—both in terminology and UI—will help new players engage more easily while also giving veteran players more targeted crafting options and valuable chase items without clogging the came with too many crafting options. Thanks for considering this feedback!

Was a bit confused at first. Without context, it is hard to make use of the description on orbs and omen. With poe2db it is making more sense. Would be great to have something similar ingame. A working skill calculation would be even better. Was not able to figure out the correct crit values for tangletongue.
