Strongbox + upgrade (orbs) makes character (skills) unresponsive

Multiple times so far (I tried narrowing it down):

After upgrading and opening a strongbox (using a augmentation, transmutation and regal orb), when the chest opens - my character does not respond to any skill activations (i.e. I cannot cast spells).
Possibly to do with "freeze on opening" Immunity of the thawing charm - but it is somehow not 100% reproducable.
All I can do is try and run away and log out and then back in.

It is not a visual bug, the game runs fine. I am on WASD controls and options: Vulkan, Geforce GTX 3080, windowed fullscreen.
