Can’t assign second set of points at Altar of Ascendancy

No matter how many times I try, I can’t assign a second set of awarded points at the altar of ascendancy. I click on the altar, it pulls up the ascendancy graphic, says to select, but doesn’t allow you to actually select. Hitting “X”/select on PS5 does nothing.

This is a complete, game breaking joke.
