Chayula Ascendancy - Bug or simple oversight is why nobody is playing it.

All it needs is on the ascendancy, or even on the passive tree. A passive point that says “mana leech effects are not removed when mana is full” allowing your ES from the ascendancy to leech. That’s it. That would fix the character. It feels as though this should exist and is just missing. ES leech is virtually useless when it looks when your mana isn’t full as you’re constantly filling your mana with any investment and you’d expect to have a lower mana pool otherwise taking leech is unnecessary. It should allow you to invest less in mana because you’re leeching it, but this actually screws up your ES leech for the node in the same ascendancy. It exists for life.

You can pickup life leech and life leech effects are not removed when life is full just on the passive tree.

The ONLY thing those 4 points are worth, is to expand what kind of damage can mana leech to other martial weapon hits (as there are no spell mana leech mods in the game), and that it affects ES, but on its own this isn’t worth much more than what you can get in the tree at all. You are virtually required to take eldritch battery and mind over matter for this to make sense but then you may as well not take the ES nodes thus making it pointless without this change.

Please add a little wheel or adjust the ascendancy as above and it’ll immediately be a playable and interesting character with a great defensive layer.

Please either:

a) Add a new node equivalent to Fast Metabolism for mana leech, or add the effect to an existing mana leech node (e.g. Syphon or Immortal Thirst).

In its current implementation the node is useless as mana will fill near instantaneously proving effectively zero ES leech.
Did you try to spend all your mana and then leech es?
It doesn't leech es normaly this way to. The problem is not full mana
In my experience it absolutely does work if my mana is empty. My present “fix” is to use a life flask that actually takes mana away, so when my life gets hit and I use the flask I get a huge instant bump in my ES as my mana is actually drained, during that moment it works but it’s incredible situational and unusual for an ascendancy.

With 1k ES and only 400 mana it may not appear to work, but it does when mana is low.

It’s easy to tell because if you can avoid getting hit, and spam one ability, you’ll see your ES usually gets tiny little bumps for each cast of mana and both mana and ES will jump but 10-20. Too small to be useful.

It really just needs this change so it is effective when mana is full to be useful.

alternatively, if they are *determined* to keep ES leech brokenly bad and functioning as it currently is (if its intended, which would be wild)

then there are a couple other options that I havent seen mentioned as well.

These options take into the assumption that the *effective* mana leech being transferred to ES, thus already going through the leech-resistance and character item + passive investment checklist wouyld be staying:

1: straight up remove the downside of turning off recharge from consuming questions node

this would mean that recharge would still work, but your attack manaCosts being an additional layer of es generation could potentially be built around. (since past a certain investment in the tree and items, effective mana leech to ES transfer is literally just "how much mana can you spend on attacks"

or

2: keep the recharge turned off on the node, *but* include "excess mana recovery from Regeneration is applied to energy shield"

this basically is mana-zealots-oath, but would provide for two ways to build es, via NOT investing in max mana and focusing on mana costs for the leech spikes of effective mana being transferred to es, OR building for max mana (which naturally builds mana regen) and mana regeneration directly via items and passive tree to provide larger-constant es regeneration and small bumps in es from effective leeching.

or something along the lines of changing it entirely like:

you cannot recharge energy shield
50% less mana recovery rate
all mana is converted to energy shield (uno reverse EB)
mana leech and mana regeneration apply to energy shield instead
your skills cost energy shield instead of mana

or ya know.. any of the other options people have provided would work as well (specifically not getting removed on full mana,
Getting four ascendancy points turned off because you hit full mana is absolutely WILD game design.

Solo-Chayula player here, I don't take the leech nodes at all. While I'm sure it would be appreciated, fixing this interaction wouldn't resolve any of the issues I have with the ascendancy.

The class weapon, skills, supports, and passives at their starting point ALL favor the Invoker. Acolyte was an afterthought for the design team and it shows!
