[POE2 Feature Request] Option to Restore Old Secondary Skill Input Behavior on Controller

Hi GGG team,

I’d like to suggest a small but impactful QoL option for controller users regarding how secondary skill set inputs behave.

Before Dawn of the Hunt, if I was holding down a button (e.g. Circle, which I use for Interact; no skill bind) and then pressed my secondary skill set modifier (in my case, L1), the secondary bind (L1 + Circle) would NOT trigger unless I released and re-pressed Circle while holding L1.

In Dawn of the Hunt, this behavior changed. Now, holding Circle and then tapping L1 will activate the L1 + Circle skill, even without releasing and re-pressing Circle.

While I can see the benefits of the new behavior, I’ve personally run into some minor control inconsistencies with classes and skills I’m very familiar with that weren’t present before (700 hours of muscle memory playing 0.10 on PS5). It’s not a huge issue, but it does add a bit of friction to the feel and flow of gameplay.

Feature Request:

Please consider adding an option in the controller settings to toggle between the old and new behaviors. This would align well with the direction you’re already heading in terms of controller customization, especially with how you've let us fine-tune targeting modes per skill, which is really useful. And the QoL improvements for crossbow ammo cycling have done wonders to my enjoyment.

Thanks for all the work you're putting into refining controller support.

Much obliged.

UPDATE:

After playing a bit more I was able to find some instances where the new behavior becomes a bit problematic.

Exhibit A: Huntress, with bindings as follows -

L1 - Activate Secondary Skill Set
Square - Parry
L1 + Square - Rake

If I try to press L1 + Square too fast, in such a way that when I let go of L1 but am still holding Square a fraction of a second, my Rake gets canceled out by the parry. This is directly because of the change I described above, since apparently the behavior applies to going from Set 1 to 2 or going from Set 2 to 1.

The binding for Rake in this instance isn't much of a factor. It's a combination of Parry being able to cancel any skill's animation and the new behavior of switching skill sets.

Exhibit B: Bindings under Dodge

L1 - Activate Secondary Skill Set
X - Dodge
L1 + X - (Any)

This is a similar issue to Exhibit A, where if you're still holding down X even for a fraction of a second once you let go of L1, dodge will activate, canceling the animation for the skill beneath it entirely. This is the most egregious example since dodge is universal.
