The Settlers league destroyed what was supposed to be alternative "Ruthless" difficulty that some staff within GGG put significant time aside to develop, including server costs to maintain. Now, and for over a year Ruthless mode is just a slow mode.

The Gauntlet despite having its flaws in design has demonstrated many times the importance of GGG to offer a consistent, rewarding and somewhat great competitive experience.
