Death Penalty - Replace XP Loss w/ Durability Loss

I would like to propose to the devs to replace the 10% XP loss upon death with 10% durability loss of gear. Durability would need be repaired by the Blacksmith and would be an important gold sink. Items would now have durability, and when dropped to 0, it breaks and temporarily loses attributes until repaired. I think having a death penalty is important, but would rather have loss of gold as opposed to loss of progression/time.

Note: Durability loss death penalty starts at Level 1. Gold repair cost should be tuned such that it would be relatively low for low-level characters and fairly substantial for high-level characters.

This is not a bad idea, but its the exact same thing that D4 has and maybe this is too much of a plagiarism that GGG would want avoid.

The idea is not bad, I dig it!
+1 from me

It would be better lost 10-20% of damage/shield. You can respawn but you lose it. Second time when you down you will have really difficulty to pass level.
Repairing is not solution.
See the problem is - when you remove consequences from games - they suck - like what happened to D4. But I think this could work if you made the gold costs high enough to where the amount could never be trivialized. That way the player feels the weight of their decisions, and remains engaged.
I never understood that masochist psychology of enjoying punishement in a game. Am I missing something there?
Games are more fun when choices matter. If that feels like punishment, maybe you’re just not built for it.

That's the problem, we lack choice in this game. If we don't play by the design (Trade, meta, high risk/reward), we don't get the fun we are supposed to get.

Gold cost should be tuned such that it would not be too low to be trivialized or too high to be overly burdensome.

Most of us don't want the XP loss because then this game really is just arcade diet POE lite Diablo 4 like.

It would be so disheartening if they took that away.

The only people that complain about it are typically the people that don't know how to build defenses.

POE 1 was like that for 13 years. From day 1.

I think a lot of new players need to take a long hard look at POE 1 and realize that's still the way they think, and the direction this game will be developed.

Many things will be different yes, but I think people are sleeping on how much will be the same.
