Atlas rework proposal
Especially if you are deep into endgame we know that the current Atlas is a cool idea but with too many problems to solve.
You can find below the list of what I feel are the issues with the current Atlas and a possible solution to fix all of them. Problems - Atlas gets too big and difficult to navigate - Long and often boring path to reach citadels - Precursor tablet wasted on maps you are not planning to run - Running Towers is not rewarding - Running maps without any league / boss is boring ( especially at higher tier maps ). - Finding all rares is frustrating. - You want to avoid certain maps ( Vaal Factory... ) Atlas rework - Waystone now generates a new limited Atlas world based on the level of the waystone. - For example a Waystone tier 1 will generate an Atlas with only tier 1 maps ( unless corrupted / irradiated ). - There should be several paths to each node. - The size of an Atlas should be around 10 maps with 1 or 2 biomes. - You know the biomes of the Waystone in advance, knowing that you can avoid certain biome with maps you don't like - Tier 15+ Waystone can be a Citadel biome - All maps should contain bosses ( at least at higher tiers ) - Killing 3 bosses in an Atlas grants a Waystone of an higher tier, Waystones can still drop naturally from monsters/bosses. - To complete a map is enough to kill the boss ( you can also complete the map by killing all rares and no boss ). - You can add a Precursor Tablet when you generate a new Atlas, all the maps inside the atlas will be affected. - You can unlock the possibility to have more Precursor Tablets slots, maybe after killing a Pinnacle Boss - When you generate a new Atlas, the old one will be destroyed ( for semplicity, managing multiple Atlas can be convoluted ). - Remove towers - This may be a bit controversial. If you die you cannot run the map again. That was the original idea from GGG that has never been implemented (except for Citadels ). Yes, it may happens that you brick an Atlas, but you will just regenerate a new one. I think it's a better solution than running again the same blank map ( without any league / bosses in it ).
