Seriously, enough with the one-shot mecahnic!

Ok... start of Act 5, first boss.. "Defeat Rathbreaker" ... I have now been one shotted on opening of this fight 5 times in a row... more than any of the other fights including all of the ones with "one shot" mechanics..

Fully geared, mostly orange and some yellow gear... almost 1200 life, 39% fire, 59% cold, 44% lighting, and 0% Chaos .. with 43% evade, and 32% armor... and yet I can't get past the opening of this fight..

Been playing POE, D4 and Wow for 20 years.. not a noob.

What gives GGG?

In before the trolls arrive to say "ackshually it's good that one shots are in the game."
Tbh. Rathbreaker is one of the worst designed bosses in the whole game. The whole fight and the whoel design of the boss itself is just horrible.

And yes One shot abilities are bad in the way POE 2 does most of them. Breachlords hovering or Timelords Boop are good.
He doesn't F'ing miss with that blow... you could be in a constant rolling mode and moving non-stop and he always seems to land on you.. on top of that he does over 1200 damage thru all the armor and Res... it's too much... this is like trying to raid Sunwell in week one, only you're solo.

One shot mechanics are simply poor game design. All this mechanic does is force people to memorize the boss fights.
FINALLY beat the SOB (22 tries) by bugging up against the front V shaped corder and staying on top of him nonstop .. didnt' give him the chance to do that one shot blow on top of me.. lame, but effective.
Rath was the gnolltaur yeah? His hardest hitting skills I feel like have good tells, the problem is he has a slam attack that is very fast and AFAIK ignores dodge rolls, had one with a damage mod in maps nearly one shot my 3200 70% phys warrior. Staying against the bottom of the plateau helps give you more time to react to his tribe's javelin lines.

You are quite arguably undergeared at 1200 life, though, and generally for act 5. Feel like I was closer to 2000 or above around that level on my warrior. Consider running half a dozen or more Ogham Manors maybe include Geonor and try getting some extra gear, try some gambles.

Or not engage with the boss mechanics at all and rather go for the "one-shot or be one-shot" strat. If defenses don't matter and you get one-shot anyway, what's the point of defense?
One-shots are the antithesis of meaningful combat. So they all need to go, really. On both sides.
one shots in the campaign are one thing, once you get 10% exp loss have fun rage quitting
