Scam Solution
Say I've been scammed for a large amount of div in the new POE II.
Many of us have paid WAY too much real money on this game for this type of behavior to be allowed. Not to mention the negative reputation it would produce for the brand and even "replayability". Preventative measures are good, but not perfect. The best solution would obviously be reverse the transaction and flag the offending player. Ideally, a system to find out if a scam report is legit by linking the trade site's intended trade to the actual in game transaction. If report comes back = true (the trade does not match & with some variance for barter), item data can be reversed in background along with automated communication to both players. Any false advertisement in essence becomes futile and punitive to anyone taking advantage. There can even be a threshold to relieve data overhead. That would solve realizing a scam after trade. Because let's face it, no one would enjoy losing many days or even weeks of grind time by having to learn how to avoid being scammed the hard way regardless of it being first time. And yes, it sometimes can be a sort of loathsome, anxiety filled, helpless feeling that first time. Especially since scammers often target larger trades and could happen when a player is excitedly ready to make their very first big purchase. It's a new game. Time to make a change. Thoughts? Let's fix this. Dernier bump le 8 févr. 2025 23:13:51

I've done hundreds of trades, some for hundreds of divines at once. and not a single time have I been successfully scammed. I'm not sure how you are getting a confirmed scammed. ( People have tried lots of times to scam me but I do my due diligence and it never succeeds, so that's why I'm legitimately asking you )

the higher the trade value, the less attention players pay for the trade.
solution: pay more attention. -- there is one thing ggg could fix: aa known scam strategy is to show the real item, cancel the trade and reopen it with a different item. people often don't check twice and accept the other item. there could be a timeout between one player being able to open the trade window again age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!

there is a saying which I feel like applies to this : "a fool is easily parted from his money".

you are required to highlight the item, so check and verify= you don't get scammed 100% success rate its an amazing fix you can do all on your own
Mcdonalds didn't scam you because they asked if the order on the screen is correct and you said yes even though it had your wrong order, but I assume your asked for a manager and complained to them also for being scammed |

We're not talking about a fool, someone who isn't doing their due diligence, or people paying less attention when there's higher trade value.
We're talking about a legitimate loophole on the account that some people actually come into the game not knowing scamming is even possible. Solution? Pay attention to the problem. Not scold anyone who comes into that type of unfortunate interaction. There is a better way. It's not like you can grab the scammer's arm and say "Hey! that's not what I paid for!". Since its all electronic, they just put you on ignore and are gone like Donkey Kong. Not to mention, there isn't a clear rule to stop the attempt. Or a measured way of ending the theft. Focus on that. |

that's a valid point about it being harmless to the scammer to "attempt" the scam even if it fails, he can try try again until he gets a winner. but in all games there will be these people and I feel like its not the early 2010's anymore. People should know what to look out for and prepare themselves accordingly. Hundreds of trades and Ive yet to be scammed.

Scammers wouldn't scam if it didn't work. At least some brainstorming is necessary. I think adding an interface "check" comparing the expected trade window item with the in-game purchase text you sent would be wonderful.
Just a simple warning if there is a mismatch can go a long way. Items may have IDs that can work with that feature. Of course, only the devs/programmers would be able to tell you if that is possible. |
