Market stall system for player trading, NOT just an AH.

I propose a new system that hasn't been done in a long time from old school MMO's, the market system. Where you setup a market stall put stuff in for sale at a price and people have to go to your physical location of the stall to buy the item. This solves a few issues GGG has with AH's as well as players issues with not being able to buy items as no one ever replies and a few others I'll get into.

For those that don't know here's an image of what it looked like in ragnarok online a long time.

Spoiler

Now obviously it's a bit messy but that's cos it was a free for all on any spot of your choosing, this can be remedied a few different ways that I'm sure GGG could come up with (Laneways, specific spots allowed etc.)

So my ideas to improve this system and why I think it's a good idea;

1) Your stall would only be active/online/open when you're physically logged in to that account (You wouldn't need to stand there yourself doing nothing), this would ultimately be up to GGG and what they feel is better. I don't really have a preference for online/offline stalls. The key from this point though is that you wouldn't need to be standing at the stall to sell your stuff (People would just make a second account anyway to get around it)

2) This solves GGG's issue of no player interaction, while there's no face to face interaction per se, the player is still going out of their way to get the item they want. This also solves the players issue of messaging dozens of people who don't reply.

3) The currency would not automatically go to your stash, you yourself would have to go to your stall and pick up any currency that has been made from your items. This goes hand-in-hand with the 2nd point. Both parties must do something before they get the item and the seller gets their currency.

4.1) A designated market area. Depending how busy/full/many people use it, it could link up with the trade website and tell the player which zone/lane/plot the stall is in for the item they want (Eg: Zone 4 Lane 3 Plot 34)

4.2) Instead of using the trade site to locate items, have it like a real market and the old mmo markets where it's just free roam and you could find yourself a bargain or you might find an item that no one else could find. To add to this possibly even get rid of the trade site, this would reduce stress on the servers at league launch, save Barry the lone tradesite the trouble of keeping it working. Or just have both and players could choose which is more convenient for them, the simple lazy way but they have to fight the possibility of people not responding (Tradesite) or the more work involved using the market stalls but they could find bargains or hidden items.

4.3) Along with the market area and no tradesite I think it's in the spirit of the game and GGG's philisophy of making items harder to obtain (which is currently why there's no AH, they don't want immediate satisfaction of getting the perfect item easily). With a market stall system having to go through countless stalls it's going to be harder to find that "perfect" item for your build, you might have to settle for an item with a bit lower res than you wanted because that's all you could find.

5) Everyone would get a "basic" stall so they could setup a shop for themselves. With this there's the oppurtunity to make MTX for stalls and have little trinkets or better looking stalls etc. available for purchase (Of course NO pay to win, everyone has same size inventory size, same size plot etc. no text affects on the shops title so paid shops stand out more or anything like that)

6) Of course with this system it'll attract RMTers so having the ability to right click the shops name and report the person is absolutely vital, also on this drop down there could be a whisper seller button so if someone wanted to haggle for an item they would be able to.

Final thoughts: I think regardless if this is implemented or not we need something to change. I think this would be the most fair and in keeping with GGG's wishes for the game in tact that trade could be, or some variation of it anyway. I personally loved this system in Ragnarok Online browsing shops when I felt like some down time in the game having it feel like a real market where you could find really cool stuff and hidden items that no one else found because you're the only one that went to the back corner of the market.

+1 to this idea. current trade system is not a good experience at all.
Not that I'm entirely against the idea...
I do want to point out that, in terms of dev time, this would be multiple orders of magnitude over implementing the most basic auction house or "buy now" feature. So I really wouldn't hold my breath on seeing this ever.

Current trade system is garbage and 100% needs to be brought to the modern era. And they have talked about their ideas of bringing an AH system to POE2, likely requiring gold to "buy now" (my personal hope would that this would also apply to listing/relisting to deter heavy flipping of markets)

This solution, unfortunately, forces me outside of my hideout and into an area crowded with players. Many sporting MTX. It's already a pain loading into Act towns due to this. Unless we also have the ability in options to turn off player MTX visuals and sounds, I would definitely vote against this idea.
The real problem is being forced to be there to complete the trade. This is just as bad. I'd rather be out levelling not staring at my screen waiting for a trade.
How about - for a bandaid before an actual AH gets coded - we do this:

We still whisper someone from the trade page but the seller not only gets that whisper but a confirmation box to accept that trade. No need to invite to a party, no option to modify the price on the buyer's side.

Just straight out buy for the listed amount. And DELIST the item if seller clicks no or times out of that confirmation box.
To be honest, I don't like the idea of traveling through a flea market.

But something definitely needs to be done about the damn price checkers.
