Please reconsider '1 life per map'

I am fine with Sekhema and Temple of Chaos being more punishing types of content and I think boss fights resetting on death is a good change from the first game, but on its face I think it's a bad idea for every piece of end game content to be similarly high levels of punishing for failure. Maps are the most basic type of content and progress after finishing the campaign and should IMO be appropriately accessible and 'casual' (=not overly punishing). I think the first game did this perfectly adequately, there was already enough punishment to add tension to dying. 2 doesn't have to be the exact same but to me the current situation is a definite downgrade.
You
A) Had a limit of 6 portals/lives
B) Took a hefty exp loss on death
C) Dying was directly or could easily result in failure in a number of in-map encounters
(also being bad at the game and dying and wasting time is a small punishment in itself)

One problem that Path of Exile 2 shares with a lot of other ARPGs, and which especially affects more inexperienced or casual players (or just the old and slow (:) who lack the depth of game knowledge or aren't in 100% hyperfocused gamer mode every second of playtime, is that frequently a player will stroll through 99% of content on a certain difficulty, until they're suddenly deleted in seconds or less because of a certain mob, ability or set of modifiers, sometimes even from off-screen. This, combined with punishing deaths, sucks. And maps being 1-death means you have barely any opportunity to learn. You're lucky if you can guess what happened from where your corpse is lying. You can't redo the encounter. You can't re-examine the situation or the monsters. You can't relive what happened, see the animations or abilities again and learn to deal with them. There's no death log telling you that Fartsnatch Taxevader just killed you with a Hasted Stunning Spell Hit of Chaos and Fire damage. Your map, your waystone, your exp, whatever was on the floor, it's gone. All you can do is swallow the bitter pill and try not to get frustrated.

It's also crueler overall to legit meleebros who have to expose themselves more to actually use their abilities in melee instead of shooting monsters from afar or doing screen exploding or minion/totem shenanigans (in other words, legit melee players don't have the same freedom to just ignore many of the enemy mechanics you've put in the game).

Call me a filthy casual who should've quit after the lovely campaign but dying in maps currently doesn't make me want to go back in, barely even makes me want to try to play better. In Path of Exile 1 maps are arguably a more chill alternative to doing things like delve, labyrinths, forgotten sanctum, where the rule is 'one strike and you're out'. But what alternative is there in Path of Exile 2? It just makes me want to do something else. Maybe play Path of Exile 1.
