A Holy trinity to improve Campaign
I've been thinking a lot about my campaign experience. And after a while, I think there are 4 ways I could suggest GGG to improve it.
1. Add crafting quests. 2. Introduce endgame systems, like maps into the campaign. 3. Add random encounters. 1. I really like the way the campaign feels, but at the moment it lacks a ton of proper tutorial quests. For example, it is very useful to check vendors every time the goods are renewed. But there should be some small quest to tell that to a player with a small gold reward. Additionally, there is no way for a newbie to experience crafting from the beginning, because he has no idea how common/rare the various currencies will be throughout the game. I think to improve the experience, you need to give a player free resources (up to 1 regal/exalt) and force him via quest to spend it on an item. Further tutorialisation is required for more in-game systems. 2. So, I like the maps in general. And I also liked the way Ritual was introduced in Act 1. There are no similar encounters for all the other league mechanics. I am generally a fan of how Sekema and Chaos trials are introduced within the campaign. It feels good to explore it for the first time. I'd like to see something similar with maps. So, for example, it makes a ton of sense for you, as a player to send "exploring expeditions" in Act 3. Mechanically - this is a map. But without waystone and the machine. I would like to see that for 2 main reasons: a) I think that a new player, when entering the endgame faces a huge list of problems. It needs to be shown partially before, in the campaign to make the experience less "shocking". b) Introducing thematic maps in acts 2-3 will give people struggling more opportunities to level up with less frustration (farming the same locations over and over again). 3. So, in my first playthrough I cleared ALL the locations fully. I really wanted to explore it, 'cause they're just beautiful. The thing is, though, there are dead ends here and there. And GGG was thinking about how to make the campaign much more replayable. Well, I think the solution to that would be to add random encounters on locations. For example, it was awesome when I found a camp within Act 3. I'd love to see more of that, but not makred on a map in any shape or form. I'm clearing the Giant's Valley in Act 2? WOW, there is a Faridun merchant! Now he stays in my caravan (hub) for a while, offering additional goods. I'm killing dead mercenaries in Ogham village? WOW, there is a house with people there. They will stay in my encampment for a while and will try to find a new home somewhere else shortly after. Just a bunch of peasants with 2-3 lines of dialogue, telling local stories and giving some lore. I'm getting into a corner within act 3 past? Well, there is a shrine to Atziri with prayers. I can listen to a "note" while looking at the beautiful view from Aggorat. And sometime after, in another dead end, I may enter a random building. There is a soul core I can find there and a note from a guy, who hates Adziry. Something like this will make the campaign worth exploring even for the 20th time, especially, if there are like, 20 stuff like this on a location and you can only find 3-5 of those (based on the size of a map). It also gives some small bonuses, like an extra merchant, guaranteed exalt or other currency, some lore (notes, shrines, inscribed stones, and so on,) and just a good view. Especially in Act 3, I encountered multiple generated "locations" that were looking so good. But it was just empty. Fill it with something and make much more of those.
